At Rapid Robotics, we are passionate about building accessible and affordable robotic automation solutions that address the manufacturing labor crisis. Our mission is to provide manufacturers with a robotic solution that can be deployed against simple tasks in hours rather than weeks and at a fraction of the cost of other automation solutions that require extensive manual programming. Our solution is driven by the belief that every innovation should be purposeful and that the simplest solution is usually the best one. Guided by these principles, we create turnkey robotic work cells to solve our customers’ operational challenges.
At Rapid, everyone has a seat at our table, and we encourage collaboration and sharing ideas. We value mutual respect, innovate with purpose, and, most importantly, put our customers first. These values have helped us build toward becoming the biggest provider of robotics automation solutions.
Founded in 2019, we are a Series B company that has raised $54M in funding. Our headquarters is in San Francisco, California, with an additional office in Novi, Michigan.
About the Role
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer for our Customer Operations Team who will be responsible for owning the fixture design, end of arm tooling design, and any other mechanical features or functions of our robotic work cell.
In this role, you will design, test, and implement solutions in collaboration with our Application Team to deliver a robust and complete product. You may also visit customer sites to understand the constraints of a task and determine mechanical design requirements. You will have a direct and important influence on the direction of the product and the development of Rapid's technology.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Use CAD software to design the work cell layout for a specific task, keeping in mind product and arm restrictions (reachability, task cycle time, etc.).
Design or adapt custom robotic grippers and fixtures for different unique tasks and parts
Get parts fabricated, and assemble and test them. Make any necessary design modifications and quick iterations.
Work with the customer to learn about the task requirements, including observing the current process, taking measurements, and getting sample parts, drawings, CAD, and machine documentation as needed.
Collaborate closely with the Field Applications team to execute customer requirements.
Help in deployment of the work cell. On-site set up, testing, and implementation of the customer task which includes the ability to install, troubleshoot, and maintain control components such as proximity sensors, relays, and vacuum ejectors.
Work with customers over the phone or over email advising on the use of the system.
Work with the product and engineering teams to improve the product as well as the experience for both the Field Applications Engineers and the customer.
Use Simulation Software to perform low fidelity analysis of mechanical designs.
Qualifications
BS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of mechanical design experience.
2+ years experience in manufacturing automation.
3D CAD experience with SolidWorks or similar software and GD&T.
Self driven and able to own and solve technical problems independently.
Strong interpersonal skills in representing Rapid to customers.
Familiarity working with industrial electrical and air, for both power and sensor uses.
Experience using hand tools for modification and assembly of metal and plastic.
Hands-on experience with product development from concept to production release.
We’re Excited if You Have
Experience with Solidworks
Experience with rapid prototyping tools, such as laser cutting, 3D printing, etc.
Experience programming and using industrial robotic arms.
Experience with hands-on manufacturing practices
Experience with simulation software.
Experience in robotic end of arm tool and work cell design.
Robotic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with coding in any language.
The base salary range for this role is currently $65,000 - $220,000 annually. The base salary range includes all experience levels and does not include commissions, bonuses, or any applicable equity that may be included in the total compensation package.
